In Houston, a backyard without shade is a backyard you use a few months a year. A well-built patio cover, pergola or sunroom turns it into living space you can use most of the year, out of the sun and out of the rain. Gulf Remodeling designs and builds them to match your home, so they look like part of the house rather than an add-on.
What we build
- Attached patio covers tied into your roofline, with shingles or metal to match the house
- Freestanding pergolas and covered outdoor kitchens and seating areas
- Screened porches that keep the mosquitoes out in the summer
- Sunrooms and enclosed patios with windows, insulation and, when you want it, heating and cooling
- Ceiling fans, lighting and outlets, wired by a licensed electrician
- New concrete or pavers under the cover when the existing patio is too small or cracked

Building a patio cover or sunroom in Houston
Rain and drainage
Houston rain comes down hard and fast. A cover that ties into your roof has to be flashed correctly where it meets the house, and the water it sheds has to go somewhere other than against your foundation. We plan the gutters and the slope along with the structure.
Heat
A solid roof shades far better than an open pergola. Ceiling fans make a bigger difference here than almost anything else. For sunrooms you plan to use in summer, glass choice and insulation decide whether the room is comfortable or an oven.
Permits and HOA approval
Attached covers and enclosed rooms usually need a permit, and most HOAs want to approve the design and materials. We handle the permit and help you prepare what the HOA asks for.
Matching the house
The best patio covers look like they were built with the house: the same roof pitch, shingles, trim and paint colors. We design to match, which also matters when you sell.

Patio covers and sunrooms: FAQ
What is the difference between a patio cover and a pergola?
A patio cover has a solid roof that blocks sun and rain. A pergola has open beams overhead that give partial shade and look lighter. Some homeowners combine both.
Can a patio cover be attached to my existing roof?
Often, yes. We look at your roofline and framing to decide whether to tie in or build a freestanding cover next to the house.
Can you add fans and lights?
Yes. Our licensed electrician wires ceiling fans, lighting and outlets as part of the project.
Do I need a permit?
Attached patio covers and sunrooms usually do. We handle the permit and inspections, and help with HOA approval if your neighborhood requires it.
