A walk-in tub lets you bathe without climbing over a tub wall. You step through a door that seals watertight, sit on a built-in seat and fill the tub around you. For seniors, people recovering from surgery and anyone with balance or mobility limits, it can be the difference between bathing safely at home and not bathing alone at all.
Gulf Remodeling installs walk-in tubs in Houston homes as part of our accessible bathroom remodeling work. We remove the old tub, adjust the plumbing, prepare the wall and floor, install the tub and finish the surround so it looks like it belongs in your bathroom, not like equipment bolted into it.
What we install and include
- Soaking walk-in tubs with a low step-in threshold and a built-in seat
- Air or water jet models, with the dedicated electrical circuit done by a licensed electrician
- Inward and outward swinging doors, chosen for how much room you have and how you get in
- Grab bars set into blocking in the wall, not just into drywall
- Handheld showers and lever-style controls you can reach from the seat
- Slip-resistant flooring around the tub and a finished, easy-to-clean surround
Things to know before you choose a walk-in tub
You fill it after you sit down, and drain it before you get out
Because the door has to stay sealed, you get in first, then fill the tub, and the water has to drain before the door opens. Fast-fill faucets and fast-drain systems shorten that wait. We walk you through the options so there are no surprises the first time you use it.
Your water heater matters
Walk-in tubs are deep and hold a lot of water. A small or older water heater may not keep up, and the last third of the fill comes out lukewarm. We check your water heater on the first visit and tell you honestly whether it is enough.
Houston slab foundations
Most Houston homes sit on a concrete slab with the drain inside it. Most walk-in tubs fit the drain of the tub they replace, but some models put the drain in a different spot. If the slab needs to be opened, we tell you before you order the tub.
A walk-in shower may suit you better
If you prefer showers, a curbless or low-threshold walk-in shower conversion with a fold-down seat is often easier to use every day. We will tell you honestly which fits how you live.

Walk-in tubs: FAQ
Who is a walk-in tub best for?
People who want to keep taking baths but find it hard or unsafe to step over a tub wall: seniors, people with arthritis or balance problems, and people recovering from an injury or surgery.
Will a walk-in tub fit where my current tub is?
Most walk-in tubs are made to fit a standard tub space. We measure your bathroom and confirm the fit, the door swing and the drain location before you order anything.
Do jetted walk-in tubs need new wiring?
Usually yes. Air and water jet models and heated seats need a dedicated circuit, which our licensed electrician installs as part of the job.
Can you add grab bars and other safety features at the same time?
Yes. We install grab bars into solid blocking, add a handheld shower and slip-resistant flooring, and can widen the doorway if needed.
